Upper Hawley Retainer with Labial Bow soldered to Adams Clasps
Appliance Purpose / Function:
The primary function of the Hawley Retainer with soldered Adams clasps is to provide retention of the anterior teeth. Retention is provided by the labial bow with no interproximal wire interference with the anterior teeth
Appliance Components:
- Acrylic Arch
- Adams Clasps on the 1st molars
- Labial bow with adjustment loops soldered to the Adams clasps
Suggested Materials:
- Wire: Chromium Cobalt wire or Stainless-Steel wire
Options
- Laser welded (removes the solder)
- Solder: Silver Solder (Cadmium Free)
Appliance Fabrication Standards:
- Labial bow is formed from 3 x 3
- The adjustment loops begin just distal to the mid point on the facial of the cuspid
- The loop ends at the interproximal of the cuspid and the 1st bicuspid then extends from the cuspids with contact on the bi-cuspids and rests on the bridge of the Adams clasps
- The Adams clasp is formed to sit below the height of contour on the 1st molar
- The Adams clasp maintains intimate contact with the interproximal area as it crosses the occlusion
- The palatal wires are formed about 1mm off the tissue to provide clearance for acrylic
