E Arch Expander (Arnold Expander)

Appliance Purpose / Function:

The E Arch expander is used to widen the lower arch using a trombone mechanical arrangement in the anterior pre activated with a coil spring.

Appliance Components:

  • Bands on the 1st permanent molars
  • Arch formed of .036 wire and .040 tubing

Suggested Materials:

  • . 036 Chromium Cobalt wire
  • .040 Chromium Cobalt tube
  • Silver Solder (Cadmium Free)

Options:

  • Laser welding (no solder)
  • Rests on the 2nd primary molars

Appliance Fabrication Standards:

  • .036 steel wire from right molar band to the mesial of the right cuspid bent straight across toward the opposite cuspid
  • .040 steel tube from the left molar band to the mesial of the left cuspid, bent straight across toward the right cuspid
  • Cut the .040 tube at the mid point of the right lateral
  • Insert the wire into the tube
  • Wire should rest on the soft tissue
  • Approximately 4mm of wire and tube should lay on the band for soldering or welding
