Banded Palatal Expander

Appliance Purpose / Function:

The Banded Palatal Expander is an all metal expansion appliance typically providing sutural separation. The RPE is available in 8mm and 13mm sizes. Each turn of the screw provides .25mm of lateral expansion

Appliance Components:

  • Bands on the 1st permanent molars expansion screw
  • Swivel key for activation

Suggested Materials:

  • Wire: Chromium Cobalt or Stainless-Steel wire
  • Solder: Silver Solder (Cadmium Free)

Options:

  • Laser welding (no solder)
  • Face mask hooks
  • Habit crib
  • Arch wire Tubes
  • Headgear Tubes
  • May be fabricated with four bands or as a bondable appliance

Appliance Components:

  • Lingual bars extend to the mesial of the cuspids unless requested otherwise
  • The body of the RPE is as high in the palatal vault as possible without touching the tissue
  • The RPE is aligned with the midline
