Anterior Bite Plate with Four Clasps

Appliance Purpose / Function:

The Anterior Bite Plate is can be used with braces to treat a deep bite or help bring teeth out of crossbite.

Working on the principle that an unopposed tooth will continue to erupt until it comes into contact with another surface, this appliance holds the anterior while allowing the posterior to erupt. An acrylic shelf is built into a maxillary plate in the anterior region where it will be contacted by the mandibular anterior holding the bite open in the posterior region. This will cause the posterior teeth to erupt and open a deep bite.

This appliance can also be sued to bring a tooth out of crossbite while the patient is in orthodontic treatment with braces.  The doctor can also add a spring to help add lingual force to bring a tooth facially.

Alternative uses can include reduce muscle activity in a TMJ patient.
